Tradesperson of the month: August

Alex Neale of Ludgate Floors in Birmingham talks to us this month about his work.

What do you think has made you so successful on Rated People as a businessman and a tradesperson?

"Customers have come on to Ratedpeople.com in order to escape the unknown world of picking a random company from a directory or the internet. We try to reinforce the positive nature of this choice by providing them with as much advice and information as possible, in a friendly and professional manner. Flexibility from both sides is key in this business and it is important that the customer feels that they can trust you. We also pride ourselves on achieving high levels of after-sales service. Customers know that if they have a problem, we will be there to resolve it."

What sort of company do you represent?

"Ludgate Floors offer a total solution to the flooring requirements of our customers. We have very good supply links and are able to offer a tailored and professional service. We supply solid woods, engineered woods, laminates, luxury vinyl tiles (Karndean, Polyflor etc.), We offer an in-house measurement and sample service, and are happy to arrange a suitable time for everyone's schedule. Once customers experience our level of service, the vast majority prefer that we take care of the supply of the materials they go for as well as the installation."

What are three golden rules you bear in mind when working?

"1. Trust is key.
 2. Customers are buying your knowledge, experience and skill, so make sure they are getting their money's worth.
 3. The customer is king. Do your best to meet the demands of the customer and exceed their expectations."

What do you think of Rated People? Is it your main source of work?

"Rated People offer a good service to the general public and tradesmen alike. They provide a decent source of business, and contact with real potential customers. The rating system allows actual feedback from customers and as such, the system discourages rogue traders from operating."

Finally, tell us a little about yourself.

"I enjoy my job and it gives me a great satisfaction to see the transformation of a customer's floor and their reaction. The nature of this type of work means that I have to work long and irregular hours, but when I am not working I like to get out and about and play sports or relax with friends. I play pretty much any sport going, but my preference will always be playing football."
