Help & advice

Receiving the right type of leads

We send you alerts when a customer posts a request for a new job that matches your job types and work area. You can view your alerts by logging into your Rated People account. We also send you alerts via email and text (if you've subscribed to this option).

To update your job types and work area go to your ‘Job Alerts’ section, click ‘Edit job alert settings’ and click on the relevant tabs to update your work area, skills and trades, add certifications, or modify alert contact preferences.

When you join Rated People we provide you with 100 text alerts. When these run out we won’t send you any more job alerts via text, but you’ll still receive them by e-mail. To buy another 100 text alerts click ‘Alert contact preferences’ under 'Edit job alert settings', scroll to 'Mobile alert purchasing' and click on ‘buy text alerts.’

Buying a lead

When we send you a job alert, we provide the description, approximate budget, the skills required, the postcode and when the customer would like the job to start. When you view the lead on the Rated People website we will also show you a price to buy the lead. If you have provided us with a valid card all you need to do is click ‘Buy’. We’ll then provide you with the customer’s full postcode and phone number so you can quote. You can also message them through the Rated People website.

We only allow a maximum of three tradesmen to buy a lead, but of course we recommend you call as soon as possible to increase your chance of winning the work.

Quoting

We notify the customer that you wish to quote and to expect a call from you shortly. We strongly recommend calling and messaging the customer to ensure they know you are interested to quote for the work.

Buying a lead from Rated People means that you have bought the opportunity to quote on the job. If you have called and e-mailed the customer and are not able to quote on the work, you can report a bad lead. We will investigate the quality of the lead and provide you with a credit to use on another lead. This means that you don’t have to be concerned about leads where the customer can’t be contacted, changes their mind about receiving a quote or doesn’t get back to you. Just report them to us and we’ll do the rest.

Reporting a bad lead

When you haven’t been able to quote on a job you can report the lead. You are not eligible to report a lead if you quote on a job, regardless of the circumstance (e.g. job did not go ahead).

We ask you to give the customer 10 days to respond to your calls and e-mail. If you cannot contact the homeowner by then or if they have not given you the opportunity to quote, then click on the “Purchased Jobs” at the top of the screen, find the job in question, and click on “View Details”. In the job details page you will have a link on the bottom right of the page. Click on “Customer won’t let me quote for this job” and follow the steps on the screen.

We will then do some verification on the validity of the credit request. Please allow for 10 working days for us process each request. Once we’ve confirmed your request we’ll add a credit to your account which you can use to buy another lead.

Checking the status of a reported lead

Please allow 10 working days from the day you submitted the lead to hear a response from us. In the mean time, we will not have any additional information on the status of leads. As soon as we have an update we will contact you via e-mail.

If you are unsure when you submitted a credit request, please click on the “Purchased Jobs” tab at the top of the screen, then look at your list of archived jobs to look for the relevant job. The status column will show you when you submitted the credit request.

Obtaining feedback and ratings

Tradesmen love Rated People because it allows them to build up a word of mouth reputation online. We’ve found that tradesmen with ratings are more likely to win work, so ratings really do matter!

After you’ve completed the job, mention to the customer how important a rating on Rated People is. Make sure you send them a rating request by logging in and going to your 'Purchased jobs' and hovering over the job in question until you see an option to 'request rating.' To see which jobs are awaiting ratings you can return to this same page and the status column will show you when a rating was requested.

Responding to feedback and ratings

We’ve found that the majority of ratings are positive, but if you do get a negative rating from a customer which you feel requires some clarification, you can respond. Please make sure that all replies are professional. This is really important for any future customers who view your ratings and the responses you gave. Most issues can be easily resolved between the customer and the tradesmen, and then the customer can update their rating.

Just click on ‘My Ratings’ and the relevant job to respond to a customer rating.
If you feel the information in the rating is factually incorrect or slanderous, please contact us to investigate.

Using your free personalised website

Your Rated People membership includes a free website which is easy to update. When you purchase a lead we send the customer a link to your website, so it’s a great way to create a first impression. We’ve found that tradesmen with a website that includes a description of their business, qualifications and photos of past work are  more likely to win work. If you already have a website we recommend linking to your Rated People website so people can view your ratings. Your website address can be viewed by hovering over 'My profile' and clicking on 'My website.'
