Bright spark becomes first female to qualify as electrician

A 24-year-old has become the first female electrical installation graduate in the 46-year history of Bracknell & Wokingham College, it has been reported.
BBC Berkshire stated that Ami Cowee took her City & Guilds 2330 electrical installation course in the evenings to ensure she was a qualified spark by the time she finished her BA in model design and special effects.
She told the news service that she had first wanted to go into a trade after helping her dad out with home improvements from an early age - which included concreting the drive of their home at age 11.
While being an electrician has traditionally been seen as a male-dominated occupation, Ms. Cowee said there are no reasons why more women cannot get qualified and work on building and industrial sites.
"I carry heavy equipment such as big massive armoured cables but you're never on your own," she said.
More students are set to follow Ms. Cowee, as the college has three more female apprentices in their second year of training.
