Britons need more information on renewable energy, says BEE

Awareness of renewable energy resources among British home owners needs to be "increased significantly" in order to meet government targets on cutting CO2 emissions and to ensure the country can cope with the potential threat of power blackouts, British Eco Energy (BEE) has said.
The warning comes after reports that the UK could face an energy gap in the next decade, with electricity supplies failing to meet peak demand.
By 2017, government forecasts predict there could be power cuts of around 3,000 megawatt hours per year - the equivalent of a city the size of Nottingham going without electricity for an entire day.
A BEE spokesman said while it is hard to gauge how tangible the threat of widespread power cuts is at present, "it can't hurt raising the awareness of the energy issues".
He added that the government's "ambitious targets" for carbon reduction and tackling climate change currently provide a bigger incentive to increase home owners' knowledge of renewables.
"If awareness is not raised significantly then the chances of them meeting those targets are very slim," he said.
