The administrator of troubled
builder Rok has announced a further 1,800 job losses after a buyer for the company could not be found over the weekend.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) was appointed to run the firm on 8th November after it ran into financial difficulty and had to suspend trading of its shares on the stock exchange.
Two days later, it announced 711 redundancies in various parts of the business, followed by another 268 job losses in Rok's Scottish
plumbing, heating and electrical arm.
The latest round of cuts will affect the maintenance and
home improvements division, as well as the construction business north of the border.
PwC partner and joint administrator Rob Hunt said the move had been necessary because "operations cannot continue" without a buyer.
He added a "small workforce" has been retained to assist with the closure of the two divisions and that the company is still open to offers of a rescue package.
