Clubs to raise Edinburgh's energy efficiency

The energy efficiency of Edinburgh's housing stock and its residents is due to be a topic of focus for new clubs established across the city.

With the clubs, residents are going to be given guidance on energy efficiency issues ranging from greener living to recycling.

Smart meters are also due to be made available on a lending basis, which could help residents to raise energy efficiency directly by assessing their power consumption.

Jenny Dawe, Edinburgh council leader, says: "We are committed to reducing Edinburgh's carbon footprint to zero by 2050.

"That will mean changing behaviour and putting good environmental practice at the core of all activity across the city."

Edinburgh City Council's Warmburgh Plan is its framework for improving energy efficiency by 30.9 per cent in the span of one decade.

Initiatives such as the national boiler scrappage plan could be an ideal way for householders to achieve their contribution towards this, with subsidies for those hiring local tradesmen to fit new heating equipment in their homes.
