EDF Energy 'cheapest for duel fuel'

EDF Energy has been named the cheapest of the big six dual fuel suppliers across all 14 distribution regions of the UK.

Comparison site moneysupermarket.com said the Online Saver 7 plan offers residential property owners the best deal on gas and electricity because of its limited-time £100 welcome bonus.

However, it added that figures from Ofgem show many consumers could be missing out on lower fuel bills because they do not check their tariff against the others on the market.

The regulator's statistics indicate that of the UK's 27 million households, at least 15 million have never changed supplier.

Scott Byrom, energy expert at moneysupermarket.com, stated: "Everyone needs to ensure they are on the best tariff for their region and usage and shouldn't be lulled into thinking they will automatically get the cheapest deal if living in a provider's core area."

EDF Energy had previously announced it would freeze its standard gas and electricity prices during the winter.
