Energy efficiency discussed across Europe

24/03/10
Edited by Sophie Griffiths.

Energy efficiency will be one of the key phrases for European Sustainable Energy Week, which runs until 26th March.

A total of 28 countries across the continent are taking part in the event, which promotes sustainability through an itinerary of 270 energy days, with almost 90 events due to be held in Brussels alone.

European Commissioner for energy Guenther H Oettinger says: "Energy efficiency and renewable energy can be a powerful factor of economic transformation and contribute to a positive, smarter vision for the society of the future."

He adds that Europe's future as a continent must revolve around green growth and decarbonisation.

One way this could be achieved is through the use of more energy-generating technologies within the UK housing stock.

With feed-in tariffs for clean energy systems due to come into effect from 1st April 2010, wind turbines and solar panels could soon prove to be an additional source of income for home owners who make an upfront investment into the technologies.
