EST launches search for green champion
25/09/09
TV host Melanie Sykes has launched a search for the Energy Saving Trust's (EST) Green Voice of Great Britain.
According to the trust, around £8 billion worth of energy is wasted in the UK annually because of poor
energy efficiency in homes, inadequate domestic insulation and unnecessary electricity use.
The Green Voice should be a "passionate advocate" of eco-friendly living who will encourage other
residential property owners to carry out home improvements such as updating their heating system or properly insulating cavity walls and lofts.
In their role, the winner of the 12-month post will also act as a media spokesperson on green issues, attend events and make regular contributions to the EST's website and blog.
Dr Paula Owen of the EST said: "Everyone can play a part in reducing carbon emissions across Great Britain and we need a people's representative to help inspire others."
The deadline for entries is noon on Monday October 5th. The winner will be chosen by a public vote.
According to the UK, every household in the UK generates an average of 5.5 tonnes of CO2 a year - enough to fill a hot air balloon.
