Expert gardener offers root tips

Homeowners who are looking to grow root vegetables in their garden could follow the recent advice of Pippa Greenwood.
The
Gardener's World presenter has the problem many people have, root vegetables do not like her soil, but raised beds can offer a solution to this quandary.
In her blog, the specialist wrote installing raised beds should make the process a lot easier, particularly if the original soil has a lot of rocks and a large amount of clay because this causes the roots to rot before they germinate.
"My tip for growing crops in planters is to buy ones with drainage holes in the sides as well as the bottom, as they can get quite waterlogged otherwise," she added.
Homeowners who are not confident growers could employ the help of a
gardener to help them set up this operation.
Those who do not have their own outdoor space can still grow their own produce by renting an allotment and, according to allotment.org.uk, some people can pay as little as £8 per year for a place to grow organic produce.
