Expert: Homeowners worried about cost of green home improvements

More and more homeowners are cutting back on their energy use, but they are only taking baby steps, it has been claimed.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said people are not buying into major
energy efficiency measures - such as loft and cavity wall insulation or ground source heat pumps - because they are worried about the costs involved.
She added homeowners are also unsure of what is available and what savings they could make.
"As a result, they could miss out on the longer-term savings to be made from investing in making their homes more energy efficient. This caution is natural, but it smacks of a missed opportunity," Ms. Robinson furthered.
She claimed, under the Carbon Emission Reduction Targets scheme, everyone is paying an extra £19 a year on gas and £18 on electricity to provide funding to support energy-efficiency measures, so people should contact their suppliers to find out ways to save money.
The country's homeowners could save a combined £962 million every year if all houses had cavity wall insulation, figures from the Energy Savings Trust indicate.
