ScottishPower has become the final member of the UK's big six energy companies to announce a cut in its standard gas prices.
As of March 31st, the supplier's charges will drop by an average of eight per cent - the equivalent of around £66 a year - for approximately 1.9 million residential property owners.
In recent weeks, the other members of the big six - British Gas, npower, EDF Energy, E.ON and Scottish and Southern Energy - have all announced their own price reductions.
However, Gareth Kloet of comparison service Confused.com said the cuts are "too little, too late" for consumers, as the worst of the cold weather has passed.
Scott Byrom, manager of utilities at moneysupermarket.com, added that while there appears to have been a "flurry of activity" surrounding energy prices, consumers will not see any difference in their bills for some time, as only British Gas has implemented its publicised cut, while the rest of the changes do not come in until the end of March.
