FMB backs low-carbon review

The Federation of Master
Builders (FMB) has given its backing to a government review of the construction industry designed to ensure it is "fit for purpose" in delivering
green houses and other low-carbon projects.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson announced the review, which will be led by Atkins chief executive Keith Clarke, last week.
FMB director of external affairs Brian Berry said there is already a "huge market" for carrying out low-carbon home improvements on existing properties.
This sector could potentially be worth between £350 billion and £650 billion a year, he added.
The challenge for
builders is to adapt their processes to pick up on these and other new opportunities.
"We acknowledge, like the government does, that the need to move towards a low-carbon economy represents the best future for the construction industry," Mr Berry said.
Established over 60 years ago to represent small and medium-sized building firms, the FMB is now the largest trade association in the UK construction industry.
