Get natural with Easter home improvements

People planning some home improvements over the Easter holiday have been offered some tips on getting a natural look by architect and TV presenter George Clarke.
When decorating walls, Clarke, who hosts Channel 4's The Home Show, said it important to remove old layers of wallpaper rather than pasting new layers on top. This will allow home owners to check the condition of their plastering and if necessary, have local tradesmen carry out "skimming".
To enhance the natural look further, floorboards can be sanded down and coated in either wax or oil them to preserve the finish.
They should also keep original period features like old fireplaces, but can strip them back to give them a fresh appearance, Clarke said.
Bold souls could turn one side of a room into a feature wall with colourful wallpaper.
"If you are scared to have too much colour in a room, keep it simple and paint the walls white. Your personal pictures and belongings can add all the colour you need," he commented.
Clarke is an ambassador for the Ideal Home Show, which runs at Earls Court in London from 20th March to 5th April.
