Good design is about "problem solving"

A British fashion icon has underlined the importance of good design in a home.Speaking at the launch of the YourSpace campaign, Sir Terence Conran claimed intelligent design can have a "tremendously positive effect" on a person's life and outlook.
He said it is not always about simply throwing money at a problem, installing the latest expensive furniture or adding the latest in-vogue accessory.
"Good design is about problem solving, identifying the issues and finding innovative solutions on a given budget," he explained.
The YourSpace promotion - a collaboration between mydeco and the Times - aims to highlight the impact design can have on life in around the community.
Interior designer Naomi Porter claims home improvement television shows have had an enormous impact on people and their property aspirations.
However, she suggests people seek professional advice to prevent them from "spending on the wrong solutions".
