The government is planning a "comprehensive refurb" of Britain's entire housing stock, climate change minister Greg Barker has said.
According to the Conservative MP, despite the cuts unveiled in the recent spending review, the coalition intends to see green
home improvements carried out on 14 million properties "ideally within a decade".
Mr. Barker insisted the money is there to achieve these aims and make the Green Deal a success.
Under this programme, households will be able to borrow up to £6,500 to carry out green upgrades. The loan will then be paid back over the long term through the savings they make on energy bills.
The Treasury has also confirmed an £860 million allocation to the Renewable Heat Incentive over the next four years.
According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, this will fuel a "more-than-tenfold" increase in the use of sustainable systems by 2020.
Mr. Barker said the government's aim is to ensure that when households improve
energy efficiency through the Green Deal they also "take the opportunity to fit micro-generation or renewable heat".
