Making green
home improvements to existing
residential property offers "huge untapped potential" for tackling climate change and boosting the economy, but the government must do more to support low carbon refurbishments, the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) has said.
The organisation welcomed measures in the pre-Budget report to increase spending
energy efficiency and introduce a boiler scrappage scheme for 125,000 households, but claimed the UK is still just "tinkering around the edges" of what is possible.
UKGBC chief executive Paul King said: "Householders need help refurbishing their whole home, not just their boiler."
He urged the government to "kick-start a revolution" in green
home improvements, adding that increasing the retrofitting of
residential property with low carbon measures would create thousands of jobs for
builders,
electricians,
plumbers and other tradesmen.
