The government has announced plans to launch a National Skills Academy (NSA) focused on green building services.
It will be one of five new learning centres intended to develop expert workforces in key sectors.
Collectively, the academies will aim to train 300,000 people over the next four years. They will receive £12 million in public funding, which will be matched by the private sector.
The green building services NSA will be backed by £3 million from the Skills Funding Agency. It will focus on coordinating courses covering the design, installation and upkeep of solar panels, eco-friendly heat and power systems and micro-generation.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson said: "New academies and investment by employers, in partnership with colleges and the education sector, will create the best training that gives people the skills they need to boost their careers and drive the economy forward."
The latest academies bring the total number of NSAs to 18.
Earlier this month, the government published its Warm Homes, Greener Homes strategy, which aims to support eco-friendly upgrades for seven million homes by 2020.
