Green home improvements 'should start simple'

Green home improvements can be relatively cheap - and do not need home owners to take out loans in order to raise their energy efficiency.
Ratedpeople.com notes the role that local tradesmen can play in ensuring that the materials used in home improvements of any kind are right for the job.
For instance, sheep's wool can be a way of raising energy efficiency in some homes, but a local builder will be able to advise whether it is suitable for any particular installation.
Other cheap steps that local tradesmen can help to advise on include draught-proofing around doors and windows to reduce the amount of heat escaping and therefore raise energy efficiency further.
New doors made of modern materials could be a further step to take, as composites can help to avoid warping and consequently let fewer draughts into the home than traditional timber doors.
Ratedpeople.com chief executive officer Andrew Skipwith says: "By making relatively simple changes, home owners can save themselves a substantial amount in the long run."
