Green house wins design award

Jez Lavers has designed and built his very first property, which has won the Norwich and Peterborough Eco Self-Build competition.
Mr Lavers and his wife Rachel included innovative green features in their three-storey detached home and scooped top prize in the contest - which aims to raise awareness about
energy efficiency in the home.
The designer said: "Building a property from scratch presents a wonderful opportunity to incorporate sustainability and get the main passive design features right, such as location, orientation and insulation."
With utility bills sky-high,
energy efficiency may be top of the agenda for homeowners, who can take a leaf out of Mr Lavers' book and implement their own green features in an existing property, such as installing a solar hot water system.
The Eco Self-Build competition has been running for seven years and offers £5,000 to self-
builders who incorporate the best green features into their project.
