Green improvements 'do not have to be all talk'

23/03/09
It has been claimed that a lot of people talk about green home improvements, but very few actually go ahead with them.

A spokesperson in the renovation sector has suggested that it is hip to be green and discuss what environmentally sound innovations you are thinking about.

However, Rachel Pyne, head of customer services at BuildStore, said that when it comes to the crunch, very few people go through with it.

"It is certainly trendy and a lot of people will look at it. I think a lot more people are interested in doing it than actually go ahead and do it for a number of reasons," she explained.

One of the reasons given for the lack of motivation to get on with the job is the up-front cost.

However, green improvements do not have to be costly.

In September, the government revealed details of the Home Energy Saving Programme.

The plan included free cavity wall and loft insulation for poor households and pensioners, while 50 per cent reductions on insulation for all households are on offer.
