Green Streets 2009 launched

20/03/09
British Gas is once again launching its Green Streets campaign.

The project aims to help communities in the UK to generate energy locally from renewable sources and reduce their fuel consumption.

Through the programme, communities can apply for funding and expertise. Last year 64 families cut their energy use and carbon emissions by a quarter.

In the year ending January 28th, the families reduced their footprint by changing their behaviour and installing energy efficient-equipment - including new boilers, cavity wall insulation and solar panels.

Homeowners across the UK can follow suit and employ similar measures to help reduce their own carbon footprint.

Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, said: "We live in an era of volatile energy prices. Reducing the amount of energy we use is the single biggest thing we can all do to reduce bills and cut emissions."

Green Streets 2009 will be open for applications from the beginning of April until June.
