Greenpeace: Time to look to the sun

A new report has outlined how solar power could account for 25% of the world's projected power needs by 2050.
The study by Greenpeace, the European Solar Thermal Electricity Association and IEA SolarPACES recommended an increased focus on solar energy around the world.
Sven Teske, renewable energy director from Greenpeace and co-author of the report, said solar power is the "next big thing in renewable energy".
According to the paper, if investment in such technology is ramped up, it could meet up to 7% of the world's power needs by 2030 and supply up to a quarter by 2050.
Earlier this year, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) said solar heat and electricity technologies are further down the path towards full deployment in the home thanks to a strong installer base.
"Both solar technologies are also relatively straightforward to install, with solar thermal being a particularly cost-effective solution when considering microgen for your home," a spokesperson for the BERR added.
