Holker Garden Festival returns

27/05/09
Green-fingered gardeners in Cumbria could receive inspiration for their own patch at this year's Holker Garden Festival.

The event takes place between May 29th and 31st and television presenter Monty Don will be on hand to offer tips and advice to homeowners about horticulture.

A giant marquee will be erected to host a vast array of flora and fauna, as well as exotic species from around the world – including carnivorous plants.

Those who prefer to have a more British garden will find roses, sweetpeas, carnations and hardy plants that are more suited to the UK climate.

High-profile garden designers will also be there with their own show spaces to provide innovative ideas and instructions.

Monty said he is "very much looking forward" to his visit to the festival.

"It is a tremendous event, in a fabulous setting, which has a distinctive local character that makes it unique," he added.

The festival takes place at the Holker Estate, which is set at the heart of 17,000 acres of countryside.
