Home owners 'pushing for sales before Christmas'

Residential property owners trying to sell their homes are becoming "more imaginative" as they look to complete a deal before Christmas, one analyst has observed.

Jane Marr, director of the Little House Company, said that while it is a tough market at present, many believe 2011 is looking "even more uncertain".

In some cases, sellers have accepted offers up to five per cent below their asking price in order to push a transaction through while others have gone back to buyers they previously rejected to attempt a renegotiation.

Ms. Marr added that a few vendors are offering financial rewards to "anybody that can find them a buyer that goes on to complete a sale".

Her comments come after Rightmove revealed the average asking price for a UK home fell by 3.2 per cent to £229,379 in November - the biggest drop since December 2007.

Furthermore, for the first time in the history of the company's House Price Index, the number of days a property is typically on the market topped 100.
