Home owners urged to ditch boilers for green alternative

Instead of using the government's scrappage scheme to replace one boiler with another, residential property owners should join the "renewables revolution" and opt for a heat pump, it has been claimed.
Daikin UK, which specialises in manufacturing the devices, said they offer three times the efficiency of the top performing boilers and generate two-thirds of the heat for homes and hot water for free from the air.
Heat pumps work at temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees C and do not require central heating systems to be replaced.
Compared with a G-rated boiler, they could save around £670 a year on fuel bills. Against an A-rated boiler, Daikin said they typically offer annual savings of up to £270.
Furthermore, not only do heat pumps qualify for the £400 boiler scrappage scheme voucher but also they are eligible for a grant of up to £900 from the government's Low Carbon Buildings Programme.
In addition, Daikin offers a £500 discount on the devices.
The boiler scrappage scheme aims to replace 125,000 G-rated boilers in England, as well as supporting jobs for around 130,000 plumbers and installers.
