Riversmead Housing Association and builder Borras Construction have completed the 1,000th job under their home improvement programme for properties in Hertfordshire.

Tenant Peggy Davies received a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion after local tradesmen installed a new kitchen and a level access shower in her abode.

The 90-year-old said she was "thrilled to bits" with the improvements, adding that coming home is now like "going into a new house".

Riversmead programme delivery manager Brian Peel said residents have been involved in the process of upgrading the association's housing, from choosing the style of kitchen they want and picking out wall colours to meeting with contractors before the work starts to ensure they understand what it will entail.

A further 250 bathroom and kitchen upgrades are planned for the coming year.

Borras managing director Adam Bowden added: "We have been working with Riversmead for many years now and it's very gratifying to see what a difference this work is making to the lives of people in their homes."

Riversmead, which is part of the Network Housing Group, was formed in 1995.

Today, it owns and looks after more than 4,300 properties across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
