How will you celebrate World Environment Day?
01/06/09
Friday June 5th marks World Environment Day (WED) and it has been claimed people are being encouraged to do their bit.
Housebuilder Crest Nicholson stated homeowners and communities in the UK are being encouraged by the event to "change their attitudes towards the environment and the way they currently live".
This year's theme for WED 2009 is Your Planet Needs You - UNite to Combat Climate Change.
One of the ways people can help is to have their water heater insulated, according to United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which is behind the event.
Organisers said those who wish to go the extra mile can contact a local
plumber and install showerheads that have a low flow to help save water, while putting a timer on heaters can also reduce power consumption.
Meanwhile, outside of the home, anyone with a garden can also plant a tree as part of UNEP's Billion Tree Campaign.
The scheme is targeting to plant seven billion of them by the end of the year - one for every person on the planet.
