Industry expert calls for energy efficiency storage heater scheme

The proposed boiler scrappage scheme should be extended to cover electric heating products, one sector expert asserts.
Writing for
Builder Merchants Journal, David Lee, director of the Electric Heating Company, wants
local tradesmen and the industry as a whole to call for the expansion of the scheme.
He notes that if
plumbers and the rest of the sector are serious about a boiler scrappage scheme, then the same should be applied to outdated storage heaters. Replacing such home heating devices may improve the
energy efficiency of a property and, in turn, lower energy bills.
"Some of these storage heaters were installed 20 years ago. They are difficult to control, inefficient and can be very expensive to run," Mr Lee states.
A boiler scrappage scheme will allow social housing organisations, private landlords and home owners to benefit from cost-effective heating solutions, he adds.
However, home owners and businesses should ensure that when it comes to gas boilers,
local tradesmen are registered under the Gas Safe Register, which replaced Corgi at the start of April this year.
