Insulating windows is "essential"

24/04/09
Apollo Blinds has claimed 20% of a home's heat loss is achieved through window panes and frames, making it vital homeowners do all they can to limit this.

In the current economic climate, the company said insulating windows is "essential to conserve energy and cash".

However, cash-strapped people who do not have the money to shell out for double glazing can still reduce heat loss and cut their residential utility bills by installing energy-efficient blinds, it said.

According to the firm, such blinds are "an easy and cheap option for cutting fuel bills in the winter and air cooling costs in the summer".

Meanwhile, those who do have the money to employ a tradesperson to fit double glazing could cut heat loss through their windows by 50%, the Energy Saving Trust has revealed.

This could lead to heating bill savings of up to £110 a year.
