The London Development Agency (LDA) has drawn up plans to release land parcels with capacity for up to 12,000 new properties for development, according to reports.

Building magazine said the east London sites will be included in a wide-ranging development strategy set to be officially unveiled in March.

New residential property will be delivered through partnerships with regeneration body the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and a new London Housing Company (LHC), as well as a procurement round for builders.

Under the LDA's plans, three areas each capable of accommodation 1,500 homes in the Albert Basin will be carved into 25-property bundles and offered to developers.

Bidders for these sites would have to meet criteria set out in the LDA's London Design Guide.

The proposed LHC would concentrate on six sites, the biggest of which will be a former Parcel Force site with capacity for 2,500 homes.

Builders for schemes involving the HCA could be drawn from the agency's Delivery Partner Panel (DPP) of approved contractors.

Last month, firms including Barratt Developments, Countryside Properties and Taylor Wimpey joined the DPP.
