Home owners can avoid a "busy and cluttered" look by matching the style and decor of their bedroom furniture, according to one expert.
Warren Evans, who specialises in making handcrafted wooden beds using materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, said having pieces of furniture that complement each other helps to create a "coherent room design".
He added that people thinking of carrying out some
home improvements in their bedroom need not break the bank in order to achieve an "instant facelift".
Redecorating can give a bedroom a fresh look, as can getting rid of clutter by investing in some storage boxes.
"Put a fluffy rug down on the floor to give a focal point to the room and buy some new bed linen," Mr. Evans advised.
His comments come after research from retail analyst Verdict found that despite a downturn in the wider furnishings market, spending on beds and bedroom furniture has remained resilient and the value of the sector is set to grow by £79.4 million in 2010.
