McCloud: We must act now

TV presenter and green campaigner Kevin McCloud says people must act now to retrofit their homes with the latest green technologies, or there is no chance targets will be met.
Gordon Brown's government has set a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, but McCloud is sceptical about the possibility of reaching this target.
Speaking at Grand Designs Live London in support of the Great British Refurb campaign, he claims building "extraordinary" ecotowns will help, but the problem lies with existing homes.
"There's not a hope in hell of meeting our targets unless we do something about the existing housing stock and unless we can retrofit and refurbish those homes to a new low-carbon economy," he explains.
The expert adds homeowners need to "empower themselves" and employ architects, consultants, designers and a whole host of tradespeople to improve their existing property and make it greener.
