NEF calls for solar panels in all future housing developments

24/06/09
All future residential properties built in the UK should be fitted with solar panels, the National Energy Foundation has argued.

As much should be made of solar power as is possible, a spokesperson for the organisation said.

Solar energy is available in infinite amounts, he added.

"There is 8,300 times more solar energy that comes on to the planet each year than we use."

He added that it would be possible to supply all the world's energy needs by trapping more solar energy.

Each new home built in the UK should now have integral solar panels, he said.

According to a study conducted for npower earlier this year, more than half of people did not know it was possible to generate their own forms of renewable energy from technology around the home.

Some 44% of people surveyed said they were not interested in installing their own solar panels or other forms of energy efficient home improvements because they see it as too expensive.
