Now 'a perfect time' for energy efficient improvements

30/06/09
North-west home owners have been advised to make energy efficient improvements while the sun is shining to save money next winter.

Home owners across the north-west of England would rather make improvements to their existing property than move - and now is the perfect time to make changes that will cut down on costs next winter, according to the Energy Saving Trust (EST).

The group told the Southport Visiter that now is a "perfect time" to evaluate which improvements will help property owners save cash on their bills.

Stephen Lang, manager of the EST's advice centre for Cheshire and Merseyside, said that as many home owners are tightening their purse strings, they may wish to investigate how much they can save by carrying out a free Home Energy Check on the trust's website.

Figures from the group suggested that homeowners in the north-west could cut an estimated £24.3 million from their domestic energy bills each year and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 131,000 tonnes.

Those who are not comfortable carrying out DIY on their own - or who are among the 31% of over-50s who have previously injured themselves while carrying out a home improvement, according to Saga Insurance - may wish to enlist the help of a professional builder.
