'Plane simple' to see lack of insulation in Peterborough

It has been revealed that homeowners in Peterborough will soon be able to see whether their home's
energy efficiency needs to be addressed.
Peterborough City Council has ordered a thermal imaging flight to take place that will help residents see how much heat their homes waste and how much money they could save through better loft insulation.
The flight will take place over the city's urban corridor from Hampton to Glinton and will allow people to compare the efficiency of their own home against national standards.
Councillor Wayne Fitzgerald, cabinet member for the environment, claims that the typical home pays £380 per year for heat that escapes through walls, lofts and ill-fitting windows.
"We hope this thermal study will show residents how much heat they are wasting and how they can save money and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by installing better roof insulation," he adds.
Figures from the
Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes show that the amount of heat lost in houses through roofs and walls every year is enough to warm up an estimated 2.2 million properties for 365 days.
