Residential property owners should invest in some colourful foliage and flowers this Christmas to make the home appear more festive.
This is the suggestion of Karen Howes, co-owner of Taylor Howes Designs, who offered tips for both city dwellers and those who live in the countryside.
People who reside closer to nature should raid local hedgerows for ivy and holly, she advised, while getting hold of a large sprig of mistletoe can also help to create a seasonal mood.
However, Londoners may instead wish to visit Covent Garden's flower market, which Ms. Howes described as a "Christmas one-stop shop".
"I buy the base of my wreath and then add cinnamon sticks, purple ribbon and purple baubles and purple feathers - glamorous and inexpensive," she explained.
Her comments followed recent statistics from National Savings & Investments, which revealed 61 per cent of Britons will be more creative and resourceful this December in order to cut costs.
