Residential property waste policies up for review

Edited by Bob Witham.

Residential property owners are likely to see a raft of changes applied to existing waste regulations, one organisation has claimed.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs announced it will be performing a full review on the current legislation in order to create greener houses and communities.

Environment secretary Caroline Spelman said there is a great "urgency" for ensuring England has an effective and efficient system in place for waste.

She remarked: "We have an unprecedented opportunity to create the green jobs, green growth and take our share of the green jobs of the future."

The assessment is expected to explore a number of areas, including methods of reaching a "zero-waste economy" and maximising the capabilities of waste and recycling plants throughout the UK.

Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the Federation of Master Builders, recently claimed sustainable home improvements will be a vehicle for job creation in the construction industry in the future.
