Scottish homes to receive energy efficiency loans
09/10/09
Scottish home owners will soon be able to benefit from a pilot scheme that will see loans provided to boost the
energy efficiency of
residential property.
The government has announced an investment of £2 million that will be used to provide interest-free loans to householders of between £5,000 and £10,000.
As part of the country's
Energy Efficiency Action plan - which aims to cut carbon emissions from homes by 42% by 2020 - the project will help people install insulation, replace inefficient boilers, or install double glazing or renewable energy systems.
Commenting on the initiative, cabinet secretary for finance and sustainable growth John Swinney said: "A waste of energy is a waste of money and with high fuel prices and the need to cut emissions, we must all take steps to cut energy use."
People considering improving their carbon footprint may want to contact
rated tradesmen, who could lay insulation, among other energy saving measures.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, home owners could save £135 a year and 720 kilograms of CO2 by installing double glazing.
