The government's comprehensive spending review (CSR) was light on detail about the future of key green
home improvement and
energy efficiency schemes, one observer has claimed.
Gordon Miller of Sustainability Worldwide, which promotes environmentally-friendly development, construction techniques and materials, said both consumers and those within the renewables industry must now play the waiting game.
He pointed to the announcement about Feed-in Tariffs as an example of the government's lack of detail.
The coalition said the scheme will be "refocused" to support the most cost-effective systems to save £40 million in 2014-15 but Mr. Miller said the practicalities of the move will not be set out until the next formal review of the programme, which will postpone any challenge the energy sector.
Nevertheless, he added, the CSR offered some positive news in the allocation of £860 million to the Renewable Heat Incentive, which will start in 2011-12.
The government claimed this scheme will drive a "more-than-tenfold" increase in the use of sustainable heating sources over the next decade.
Mr. Miller described this as a promising move but warned: "The devil, as always, will be revealed in the detail."
