UK needs new skills in renewable technology
05/10/09
The UK needs those with specialist environmental skills to increase the countrys
energy efficiency, it has been claimed.
According to Angela Gallacher from the Renewable Energy Centre, financial support for the sector is vital for Britain to remain at the forefront of technological innovation.
There is a definite need for new skills and expertise in the renewables arena, whether in the development or commission of various technologies, she commented.
Ms. Gallacher went on to say that the global decision to tackle climate change has created a new set of job fields and it is essential that these are filled by up-and-coming generations.
She added that in particular, there is a great deal of work to be done to harness the power of tidal energy and develop fuel cells and carbon capture and storage.
Earlier this week, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that clean energy technologies of the future are to have access to an additional £20 million in government-backed venture capital support.
