Wind energy 'good for green houses'

Residential properties can become green houses if they install energy-efficient wind turbines, one expert has suggested.

Mick Kelly, spokesperson for SIAC Wind Energy UK, said people may not be conscious of the benefits such sustainable home improvements can make.

Commenting ahead of Wind Week 2010, he noted that raising awareness is one of the key goals his organisation is hoping to achieve through the event.

"[Wind turbines are] a good investment with medium to short-term payback time," Mr. Kelly said, adding that farmers and domestic customers are among the main demographics his company are looking to educate on these matters.

Individuals who have a suitable site and can generate their own power through the deployment of wind energy technology could be eligible for Feed in Tariff schemes, he added.

Those who take part in such initiatives can sell some of their electricity back to the grid in order to receive cash payments.
