Would you like to save £340 a year through home improvement?

02/06/09
An environmental expert has claimed people can save hundreds of pounds a year on their energy bills through green home improvements.

Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said if the UK is to cut CO2 emissions by 80% before 2050, action must be taken and the best place to start is at home.

He added that a total of £23.9 billion was spent on repair, maintenance and home improvement works last year, which represents a "missed opportunity" to make a property more environmentally-friendly and easier on the wallet.

An average of £340 a year can be shaved off energy bills as a result of acting greener and making improvements, Mr. Sellwood stated.

"We need new training schemes and quality marks for the housing sector to help house holders identify skilled tradespeople with the expertise to make green improvements," he added.

Rachel Pyne, head of customer services at BuildStore, a supplier to the self-build, conversion and renovation market, has previously claimed it is "cool to be green".
