Carpentry & joinery job in SE5

Quality of finish was poor, not a professional std from a qual carpenter.Broke floor tiling, smashed mirror, drilled 3 saw marks into the floor as no plinth was used.Agreed to make good smashed mirror, broken tiling, saw mark damage but never returned.Marks/holes in surface facing wood covered up badly with filler/wood shavings.Gaps between cupboard doors/walls.Paid for anti water resistant wood but cheap chipboard used instead.Drilled through the opposing wall which required patching.Would never recommend

Carpentry & joinery job in SE24

Where to begin…I guess the positive. Jed built what I briefed him. Such a stressful process though that I wouldn’t use him again and wouldn’t recommend him. Here’s the full review: Job was supposed to take a week, with all building and painting taking place in Jed’s studio, and assembly only at my house to minimise mess. In the event, it took 4 weeks (during which I couldn’t use the lounge, problematic in a tiny one bed flat), and a load of mess in my front room, wood cutting happening on the front doorstep, and wood cuts left across the front garden. Lots of ‘stuff’ seems to come up so that he was consistently late arriving to start work (which was a problem when co-ordinating him with an electrician’s hours and my work hours). Friday start time was 9am - was amended a few times and eventually Jed arrived at 6.30pm. Again, Saturday, was due at 9am, arrived at 11am. No explanation - just ‘I had to do a few things’. When it wasn’t complete in the week quoted, Jed offered to carry on and finish while I was on holiday. Got home two weeks later to find that it still wasn’t finished - and Jed confirmed that he’d been working on other jobs so couldn’t get on with it. Week 4 Jed did come every day, but took an additional 3 days to finish up. Can imagine this was frustrating - really annoyingly, while this was all happening, Jed stopped answering his mobile (calls or texts) and only called me when he wanted to (at end of day usually) - so we resorted to communicating by written note. Not great. I requested, but was never provided with, a plan for the work - make sure you get this, as Jed seemed to forget several key things that had been briefed. Work is great from a distance - but if you look closely, is quite sloppily finished up. Big black screws showing, back of unit not well finished, gap between unit and wall at back (where you don’t see unless you look) filled with sawdust, nails/screws and spare bits of wood. Built the whole shelving unit on the wires for my cable box which means the wire is now really short and dictates where the box can sit. Also, if the wire ever needs repairing, the whole unit would to be disassembled… Jed broke (but did repair) several items - radiator, elec plug box, knocked a massive chunk of plaster (leaving exposed brickwork) off the chimney breast. Generally fairly messy, and didn’t really seem to respect my property. Eg Had to repair plaster work, so was forced to sand in the lounge, but chose not to cover sofa, carpet etc with dust sheets so am going to need to get the room professionally cleaned. Finally also worth knowing that Jed doesn’t have his own van - so reliant on another company to bring his tools, wood etc, who also proved unreliable. Also meant that when he broke the radiator, and it was leaking, I had to drive him myself to his studio to pick up the right tool to stop it. Jed makes it work clearly, but it wasn’t ideal. Based on other reviews, doesn’t seem that this was standard Jed behavior - but it did happen for my job, so wouldn’t recommend using him again. If you’re as laid back as Jed is, sure he’d do a great job for you.
