People ‘now consider technology during home makeover’

When getting a painter or decorator in to do up a home, more and more people are thinking about how technology will be included in their newly-designed abode.

Interior designer Jo Hamilton has revealed technology to be one of the “major considerations” during decorating projects. She said televisions are now typically much larger than they once were and no longer “sit quietly in the corner”.

There are some options to counter this, including artwork and mirrors that can be pulled across to reveal the screen or another piece of electronic kit. “Design wise, moody colours, luxuriously comfortable seating and feature lighting are a must. It’s all about creating an atmosphere, a backdrop for the main event,” Ms Hamilton continued. She added that media rooms are becoming more popular and a big screen is the key to these.

Louise Smith, a colour expert at Dulux, recently advised people to ensure their new look is refined, elegant and smooth when doing up a home in 2012.
