People in the UK – and, in particular, the elderly – must get somebody to check their home’s essential appliances this winter.
That is the view of Gas Safe Register’s Phil Brewster, who said there are several features that it is worth looking at.
These include the gas boiler, a gas fire and any other heater within a property.
Should any of these fail during the coldest months of the year, people will find the temperature of their home plummets, leaving the most vulnerable at risk of contracting hypothermia.
Mr Brewster stated: “The simple danger signs to look out for are yellow and floppy flames instead of nice, crisp blue ones, sooty stains on or around the appliance and excessive condensation in the room.”
Richard Addenbrook, managing director of Sense of Space Architects, recently said demand for energy-efficient homes is due to increase in the years to come, perhaps making the idea of improving the green credentials of a property’s heating system more attractive.
