Green home improvements ‘are vital for the UK’

The importance of the green initiatives put forward by the government has been emphasised by an environmental expert.

Gordon Miller, co-founder and sustainability and communications director at Sustain Worldwide, said the Green Deal will be a significant step forward in the bid to make Britain’s homes and businesses eco-friendly.

He identified the creation of a Green Investment Bank (GIB) – from which people can borrow money to pay for green home improvements – as one of the “primary stimulus mechanisms” in the Westminster plans.

“It’s not merely important but critical that initiatives, such as the GIB, are a success,” Mr Miller confirmed, noting Britain may struggle to meet its carbon reduction targets if it is not.

Indeed, he said the current idea “barely touches” the commitment the country has made to reduce harmful emissions.

Friends of the Earth this week suggested urgent action is required to help the many Britons who are struggling with their energy consumption and bills.
