Half-term could provide new burst pipes threat

Homeowners might find that taking action now to prevent burst pipes is a crucial move, as the imminent arrival of half-term will increase the threat to many.

Insurance provider esure has warned that with the big freeze continuing to rumble on across Britain, those who head away for the school holiday may return home to find the cold has had an impact on their plumbing. It suggested that freezing rain and further snow are due to arrive in the UK thanks to the Siberian weather front that has been coming our way.

With this in mind, it is worth taking some precautions before embarking on a week-long vacation, many of which could be carried out by a professional tradesman.

Gordon Hannah, director of claims at esure, commented on last winter’s incidents, stating: “Families had gone away, freezing weather had caused their pipes to burst and they returned a day or two later to the widespread destruction of their homes and personal belongings.” Aviva last week recommended giving properties a thorough check after the initial wave of cold weather had hit the UK.
