Don’t miss: Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

For those that missed out on Chelsea Flower Show this year, you’re now getting a second chance. While the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show doesn’t enjoy the same media frenzy as its London cousin, the 5-day gardening bonanza is still the world’s largest annual flower show and well worth a visit.

Apart from the the show gardens with this year’s theme English Poets (last year it was Shakespeare), the show promises an edible garden,  a “wonderland of roses” and nine conceptual gardens. There will be plenty of exhibitors (just look at all the excited messages on the official Facebook page) as well as an interactive display that promises to show visitors how one can improve urban areas with gardens.

Keep an eye out for the “food for free” area, where plants that can be foraged from the wild are put on display. If you read our urban gardening post yesterday, you’ll also appreciate Cinema Paradiso, a fantasy in an urban landscape.

Time will tell who gets the gold medals. The show runs from the 5th of July to the 10th and if you can’t make it to Surrey, you can catch  on BBC 2 on Monday, Thursday and Friday night.

We’re sure you’ll feel so inspired after this show visit that you’ll want to hire a gardener and get your garden into ship-shape. Post your job on Rated People for free and and up to three local tradesmen will get in touch with a quote.
