Home adaptations ‘increasingly made for older people’

As the British population continues to age, more is being done to homes in the UK to adapt them for older residents.

This is the claim made by Easy Living Home, which has suggested interior designers are currently looking at ways of carrying out such work in a way that is elegant.

Builders in Manchester and elsewhere may be called in after the company’s director Alison Wright said that with the cost of residential homes rising, many people are planning to remain in their properties for as long as possible.

“With the older population expansion and local authority grants becoming even more difficult to obtain due to spending cuts, the area of independent living will continue to grow,” she predicted.

A spending gap of around £500 million has been identified by Age UK in its Care in Crisis 2012 report by councils in England, with home adaptations potentially relieving pressure on social care budgets.
